I started to paint in 1979, I was then 34. It was a way to express myself beyond words, in a manner that is not only more direct but also more subtle. I aimed at speaking about the living sickness, Death, the Third-World and Society. More than ever, there is nowadays a great necessity to read through materials, man-made objects and symbols. The emphasis should be put on feeling and meditation rather than Expression.
I have been travelling a lot, especially in Asia, that I love passionately. Little by little, I have included materials, objects, vegetals, pictures, shapes, signs in my paintings. In this regard, I have given a particular role to rice and bamboo. I often use common things that I bring to another context that gives them a new meaning, a new life. Black is by far my predominating color for its intensity, its fullness. My work is moving to a purified art, almost to the Minimal.
More than a mere look, I wish my work could lead the spectator to a thought, a state of mind or a silence. A painting does not need a key, it may even remain a riddle, like a poem. Words themselves have to do with literature.
